STUDENT WORKING RIGHTS
- Student can work upto 20 hours each week during the academic year provided he/she is enrolled in a full time course of study that meets one of the criteria listed below:
- The student is undertaking at least 1.5 to 2 years long course at a private/ public training establishment or tertiary institutions.
- The course leads to a New Zealand qualification that qualifies for points under the Skilled Migrant Category of Immigration New Zealand’s Residence Instructions..
- The Student can work full time during the Vacations.
- The work rights for Dependents i.e Spouse of student on Work Visa can work full time in NZ. However, the dependents of students on visitor visa have no work rights
Post study work rights
- Students who complete either of the following qualifications by studying in New Zealand are eligible for a twelve month open work permit:
- A qualification at level 7 or above on the New Zealand Qualification Framework and studied that qualification in New Zealand for at least one academic year ; OR
- A one and half year to two year qualification at level 5 to 6 on the New Zealand Qualification Framework andstudied that qualification in New Zealand for at least one and half year to two academic years
